48V Alternator
This simple design incorporates a familiar technology to provide dedicated power for the Cummins Electric Heating System.
Piston Design
Evolutions to the piston bowl design increase compression ratio while piston skirt changes reduce friction, improving fuel efficiency.
Cartridge-Style Filters
Maintenance is made easy with cartridge-style filters that not only reduce costs but also minimize environmental impact.
Improved SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction)
Updated catalyst technology maximizes NOx conversion and improves low temperature performance.
Weight Neutral System
A sculpted engine block reduces engine weight and adds strength to the right places, offsetting the weight gain from the aftertreatment system, and resulting in a weight neutral system that translates to higher payloads and more completed jobs.
Electric Heating
Specifically designed for heavy-duty commercial vehicles, this heating system operates independently of the engine. It allows catalysts to reach operating temperature faster on cold start-ups and enables on-demand thermal management. Engine efficiency and performance are also optimized without compromising thermal management.

Frequently asked questions about the 2027 X15
This 2027 X15™ will be manufactured at the Cummins Jamestown Engine Plant in New York.
The 2027 X15 platform is tested and proven across the globe. Extensive field and engineering testing within North America further proves the validation across multiple vehicle brands and applications.
The architecture uses a belt-driven, high output 48-volt alternator to provide power for an aftertreatment heater solution optimized for increasingly stringent emission standards. This technology allows for the reduction of NOx output across all operating conditions (cold start, light loads, no load conditions) without sacrificing fuel economy.
At a system level, meaning engine and aftertreatment, weight is expected to remain neutral to the 2024 X15 system.
Compared to the 2024 X15, customers can expect up to a 3% fuel efficiency improvement.
