Flexible Q Range finding favour across Europe

Cummins is reporting strong take-up for its low kVA Q Range of generators, confirming there is a clear market appetite for a cost-effective, quality brand in the mainstream end of the market.

Vanesa Ferrari, marketing manager for Cummins Power Generation EMEA, said customers had responded well to the European-assembled generator sets, which span a power spectrum of 22-550kVA. 

Launched in Europe in 2023, Cummins quickly identified opportunities to maximise the flexibility of the Q Range, introducing several options such as extended fuel tanks, premium circuit breakers, three-way valve and socket kit panels. 

In addition, an agreement was concluded with COMAP to offer its popular controllers as a factory-fit option, a move particularly well suited for customers operating mixed generator fleets. 

“The optional COMAP controller, which will soon be available to order, will make life easier for the technicians who need to monitor different generator sets and who are used to working with a familiar and trusted controller brand,” said Vanesa, adding the COMAP controller is covered by Cummins’ comprehensive warranty. 

With the launch of the Q Range generators, Cummins Power Generation strengthened its presence in the low kVA segment with a dual range offering. Vanesa explained: “We combine the premium Industrial range, which is designed for customers who require maximum reliability and durability in demanding applications, with the adaptable Q Range, which is aimed at budget-conscious customers seeking flexible features and a compact footprint for basic applications.” 

Cummins reports rapid growth in Q Range generator sales, particularly in markets such as the UK, Italy, Spain, Ireland, and the Netherlands. In these countries, around 80% of customers have transitioned to the fit-for-market Q Range solution. 

At the same time, the Industrial range continues to perform strongly in eastern Europe, where advanced project integration and a highly robust product are prized. A particularly pleasing aspect of the Q Range series launch has been its capacity to open doors to new distributors operating across different market applications, said Vanesa, highlighting recent dealer appointments in Poland to meet growing demand from rural farmers. 

“As a team, we identified the potential of the Q Range’s adaptability and flexibility to serve the agricultural segment, mapped potential end users, and completed a virtuous cycle by connecting with specialised dealers in this segment.”

Genset milestone for Daventry 

Cummins’ Daventry plant has produced its 10,000th generator set. 

The genset – a high-performance QSK95-series model – has been installed at a European data centre run by one of the world’s top hyperscale operators, where it provides mission critical standby power to support the AI-driven digital economy. 

Rated at up to 3.5 MW (60 Hz) and 3.75 MVA (50 Hz), the QSK95 delivers exceptional power density, offering more output in a smaller footprint compared to larger competitors. 

This efficiency helps reduce installation costs and allows facilities to meet power needs with fewer units.
