Cummins
Engine Company
Cummins was founded in 1919, by Clessie Cummins and W.G. Irwin,
aiming at manufacturing diesel engines for trucks and buses,
which would be more economic and more resistant than the gas-powered
engines available at that time.
A
small factory was installed in Columbus, Indiana ( USA), starting
the production of stationary engines for agricultural use.
At the beginning, the company faced several difficulties and
underwent a long period of losses. However, during World War
II, when Cummins Engine Co. started supplying engines to the
American army in Europe, their engines conquered space in
the international market. Cummins started going worldwide,
installing 80 factories to produce engines, generators and
components and 5 thousand services points in 197 countries.
Today, it is the biggest independent diesel engines manufacturer
in the world. Quality, innovation and high technology continue
to be the main characteristics of Cummins products, which
equip trucks, buses, boats, tractors, harvesters, trains and
stationary motors.
CUMMINS
IN BRAZIL
In
the beginning of the 70’s, following the trajectory
of some of their huge worldwide clients, Komatsu and Ford
among them, the American Cummins Engine Company was established
in Brazil, attracted by new opportunities in the Brazilian
marketplace. The Brazilian subsidiary was legally established
in 1971, under the corporate name of "Cummins Brasil".
In
1974, they started their industrial activities in Guarulhos
(SP). Manufacturing a wide range of motors, the company supplies
several segments of the marketplace, among them: trucks of
all sizes, pickups, buses, stationary applications, construction
machines, agricultural equipment, machines for mining and
marine applications.
In
September 2000, Cummins also started acting in the manufacturing,
sales and rental of power generators, by means of their authorized
collaborators.

Factory, with 60 thousand m² of gross area, located next
to Presidente Dutra Highway, in an area of 138 thousand m²,
presently has capacity to produce over 70 thousand engines
